Things went over a cliff about 3 seasons ago.  What happened?

The State took control of the school and really wanted to close the doors.  We were in the poor house as we were put on fiscal distress.  They ran the programs for two years and then it was discovered by the State appointed Superintendent that we were  being basically robbed of millions of dollars.  Money that should have come to Mineral was being sent to other districts.   The Turk power plant is in our district and we now generate about 3.5 million a year in tax money we now receive no tax money from the state.  This makes us one of the richest school districts in the state.  We are building a new 19 million dollar k-12 school and making sure we have some of the highest paid teachers in the area to promote a great education and we expect things to improve as the years go on.  We are on our way back from the poor house to the pent house.

That is actually great for a small community like that. Mineral Springs is way on the small end as far as enrollment goes for schools playing football too right?

Wow, interesting.

I'm going to date myself, but I remember when something like this happened when AP&L built the Independence coal unit at Newark.  Newark went from poor house to penthouse practically overnight.  They even built a TV station in the school back in the early 80s.
