With Plumlee going to malvern, who is going to be the next head coach?

youhavenoidea

Anybody hearing anything about this?  Seems like they would have had some interviews starting by now

You would think so. Perfect time to do it.
Agree, Districts don't have a problem with basketball and wrestling tournaments during Christmas break, so why not?

GotInfo?

Word is that several good coaches have applied.  District isn't in a big rush to fill the job from what I hear.

That's surprising

Why? Fountain Lake is a pretty wealthy school. They can get the pick of the litter.

Why would they be in a rush?

I guess people think that schools will rush to get the best candidate possible.  If they are slow, some of the best people available maybe taken by some other school, or get locked into next years contract.  Going slow may leave the door open for some great coordinators to get their foot into the door or their 1st HC job.

The word I had was they wanted to find their guy by the end of the month.  They will not be dragging their feet on this.

Did you hear the old guys talking about this at McDonald's?

Casino

I'll bet that it is filled by the Feb board meeting.  If not a special meeting before

Sounds about right, just in time for the Spring.

doggieskoot2

Any strangers walking in the building in a suit down there yet?

Mulerider4Life

I wondered why that former SFA and UCA coach from Bauxite didn't apply for that position. He has baggage, but a winning record.

doggieskoot2

Must feel like his situation where he is, is better.

A volunteer assistant coach? Doubt it.

FL appears to be a great school to build a program.  Close enough to draw a few transfers from the bigger schools. Course they are in the 4A-7 which is a good thing I would think.

Exactly, and you have some big boosters I believe too. They have nice facilities, and also a good younger boys program.

footballmom42

Not sure who the "big boosters" you are referring to, if that were the case, we would've been able to keep the coach we had. I know there have been more applicants this time around but the pay for the head football coach at FL is a definite drawback. Most head coaches that apply would most likely take a pay cut. And 7-4A is a tough conference to take on.

Pay cut for a Hot Springs Village school district, bro come on. They have the money.

Mulerider4Life

Shoot the Volleyball coach got paid $71,403 in 2017! Boys and Girls coaches were paid over $60,000 a piece. You are telling me they couldn't atl east get 65,000 to a coach?

GotInfo?

I believe Plumlee was the 2nd lowest paid coach in that league last year.  Made low 60's.  Left for Malvern to make low 80's.
That is a hard sell for coaches that make more to take a pay cut for this job.  Great district, people, and area, but the pay doesn't help.

footballmom42

First of all I'm not a "bro" LOL I'm a "sis" or even a "chick" LOL I think people assume the HS Village helps us. You couldn't be more wrong. There's actually a much needed and overdue millage increase in the works because we need to add a more up to date elementary school and give our teachers a long overdue raise!! However, the HS Village will most definitely be a stumbling block to get that passed. Those folks move down here for the golf courses and lower taxes!!!! And 65k for a fb coach in Garland Co. and even the 7-4A conference, is actually not that impressive. I was pretty surprised to hear that too......

Well you couldn't pay me enough to live in Malvern. Just like paying 100k to live in Pine Bluff. Fountain Lake is going to have to find them a young assistant like England did. Your right at that pay scale you probably won't keep someone for too long, but at least go and get a proven assistant. Look at Bryant, look at Benton, look at Arkadephia, look at Magnet Cove, look at Camden Fairview, Look at El Dorado

Gray lizard

Looks like he made from 65,498.47 to 73,068.47. That is depending if the additional duty pay is included or not included in the total.

nomorewhining

his contract will be on the school website. you can look and see exactly what he made

Mulerider4Life

Regardless they will find someone, 7-4A is a tough conference. Robinson is a powerhouse, Nashville has been a powerhouse, Arkadephia I am surprised is not a 5A school, but they will continued to be good. Bauxite is on the up, Harmony Grove holds their own, Fountain Lake always fights, Ashdown and Malvern may have the biggest learning curve. We will see what Malvern can do with a new coach next year.

Mulerider4Life

Heck the State Finals came from the 7-4A!

For what it's worth, the head coach listing is no longer up on the school's website.

Would add up - I know he reached out about some jobs last spring, good time to leave Atkins.

I dont know who it is for sure. I dont want to spread rumors.

The new coach will be announced today.

welven

Says me! I hate this phase but this coach will be a home run hire and has won everywhere he has been. What he does will give FL the best possible chance of winning in that conference.

Look just because Joe Bob told you at the Donut shop that he thought he knew who it was doesn't mean jack.

Don't be mad because we all know and you don't.

footballmom42

I can only hope the new coach will stay more than 2 years. One of the candidates being considered hasn't been anywhere more than 3 years. It's hard to build something when you only stay 2-3 years.....
