One note to consider with respect to conference standings: at this time, I have NOT factored in any head to head tiebreakers to determine the actual conference standings.  At present, conference standings are determined only on W/L record and tiebreaker points.

As we hit the last game (or so) of the conference schedule, please keep in mind that if two teams finish tied in the conference standings, their head to head results are the first tiebreaker.

With this in mind, you may find this post a helpful resource in breaking any ties in the conference standings.

I will also start a thread dedicated to resolving any specific conference ties - please post questions about specific ties in this thread.

5A Tournament First-Round Matches if the Season Ended Now

I'll keep this post updated throughout the week(s) as the conference standings that seven is updating are updated.  These placements/matches reflect those standings as they stand right now.  I may also try to make one of these for 6A/7A, but 4A will not be done as we do not have a post keeping up with the 4A standings (someone who knows all of the 4A standings, feel free to keep us updated on possible State Tournament matches).

Coach, I put these stats only for reference on the final games over the years.  Remember Harrison boys have made it to the semis every year and the girls have made it to the semis almost every year losing (I believe) only to PA, LRCA.
CLASS 5A Boys:
2014 - De Queen (Runner-up HS Lakeside)
2013 - Little Rock Christian (Runner-up Harrison)
2012 – Siloam Springs (Runner-up HS Lakeside)
2011 – Siloam Springs (Runner-up HS Lakeside)
2010 – Little Rock Christian (Runner-up Hope)
2009 – Little Rock Christian (Runner-up Central Arkansas Christian)
2008 – Harrison (Runner-up LR Christian)
2007 – Pulaski Academy (Runner-up Siloam Springs)
2006 – Harrison (Runner-up Pulaski Academy)
2005 – Harrison (Runner-up Siloam Springs)
2004 – Harrison (Runner-up Central Arkansas Christian)
2003 – Harrison (Runner-up HS Lakeside)
2002 – Harrison (Runner-up Searcy)

CLASS 5A Girls:
2014 - Harrison (Runner-up Pulaski Academy)
2013 - Shiloh Christian (Runner-up Harrison)
2012 – Central Arkansas Christian (Runner-up LR Christian)
2011 – Harrison (Runner-up LR Christian)
2010 – Little Rock Christian (Runner-up Pulaski Academy)
2009 – Little Rock Christian (Runner-up Central Arkansas Christian)
2008 – Pulaski Academy (Runner-up LR Christian)
2007 – Pulaski Academy (Runner-up LR Christian)
2006 – Central Arkansas Christian (Runner-up Pulaski Academy)
2005 – Pulaski Academy (Runner-up Little Rock Christian)
2004 – Harrison (Runner-up Arkadelphia)
2003 – Pulaski Academy (Runner-up Harrison)
2002 – Harrison (Runner-up Searcy)

Using the teams listed above that are still in the 5A boys/girls soccer, I have
in boys:  DeQueen, LRCA, Harrison, Hope, HS Lakeside and PA.
in girls:  Harrison, PA and LRCA.  (HS Lakeside has made the semis in the last two years also).

This is interesting on what I see in this scenario as of now...

Harrison boys has a good spot as W3, could make the semis, just got to get pass the hometown playoff team, Hope in the 1st round, then maybe PA in the quarterfinals, then maybe West LRCA or Lakeside in the semis.  Finals could be DeQueen and anyone else.

W2 Harrison girls has, but could do better at W1 in the playoffs.  Right now they have to beat Lakeside in the 1st round, then maybe PA in the quarterfinals. Then maybe West LRCA or even West Greenbrier in the semis. It would be better if Harrison as W1 played the bottom half of the bracket, Take PA on once again in the finals.

This speculation of the above scenario, anything can happen from now to the finals.  Good Luck to all teams!

I would not necessarliy count out Maumelle quite yet.  I beleive the SAT 4PM game could be an epic game if both teams make it that far.

I wasn't counting out Maumelle.  Great team and I really wish that they win in the semis in the scenario that I stated.  One reason that I picked DeQueen is that they also have a great team, but they have many players on the team.  They can sub in 5-7 players each time, while most teams sub in 1-3 players.  Their strategy is a very fast paced physical game and to wear the other team out to make mistakes.  The answer to beat them is for the opposing team to have a lot of stamina, to make it through the 80+ minutes.  I've seen them twice in the semis in the last two years since they came in the 5A.  They played Harrison both times.  Harrison won the 1st year, DeQueen won the 2nd year.  Another reason that I picked DeQueen (not only seeing them play) is their record, a 4-peat State Champion in the 4A, then making it to the semis in the 1st year (but barely lost by 1 goal) in the 5A (best fast paced, talented, physical soccer game that I ever saw)  and then won 5A State Championship in their 2nd year in the 5A.
A little history of the last two semis and final boys games for the last 2 years.
Greenbrier was the West Conference Champs in the last two years.  DeQueen was the South Conference Champs in the last two years.
1st year:  Greenbrier lost to Central LRCA in the semis.  DeQueen lost to Harrison in the semis.  LRCA beat Harrison in the finals.
2nd year:  The South conference had for the 1st time, three teams in the semis, plus W2 Harrison.  HS Lakeside beat Hot Springs in the semis.  DeQueen beat Harrison in the semis.  DeQueen beat HS Lakeside in the finals.

Though I am a Goblin/Lady Goblin fan, I'm a West fan above all others.  With the additions of Maumelle and LRCA to the West,  I'm hyped up for the West conference chances in the playoffs.

Stating the obvious that Dequeen and Maumelle are good teams that are having good seasons......It's interesting no one has mentioned Valley View as a team to make a run in 5A tournament.

To be honest, I was thinking about VV boys/girls teams moving up from the 4A as I was typing the above scenario and how new blood to the 5A can only make this 5A conference better.  The VV boys and VV girls have a State Championship trophy each.  The boys beat CAC in '13 and the girls beat Maumelle in '14.  The girls have 2 State Runner-ups, losing in the finals in '09 to St Joseph Conway and in '11 to Pulaski Academy.  Both VV boys/girls teams are doing great since coming up to the 5A in the East conference.  They could make an impact during playoffs.  I will use Coach's playoff scenario on what may happen if VV's both teams went to the playoffs as East one seeds...
Boys:  E1 VV wins 1st round, but then has to face two of the best 5A record holder teams W2 LRCA or S3 HS Lakeside in the Quarterfinals, then probably play W1 Maumelle (who is the surprise this year and making a statement) or E2 Batesville in the semis, then more than likely play another best 4A/5A record holder and current 5A State Champ S1 DeQueen in the finals.
Girls:  E1 VV wins 1st round, but then has to face two of the best 5A teams, W2 Harrison (Current State Champ and State Runner-up the year before) or S3 HS Lakeside (were in the semis in the last two years) in the Quarterfinals, then probably play another best record holder C1 Pulaski Academy in the semis.  I have no clue on who they will play the finals.  I'm guessing maybe S1 DeQueen or another best record holder W1 LRCA.

Now all of the above is pure speculation on the scenario that Coach did.  I think that VV boys/girls teams are very good, but they still need to make a 5A statement once playoffs start.  I am hoping that they will. 8)

This is the crux of it, really. The 5A especially is a huge divide between the Haves and Have Nots. PA, LRCA, Harrison, and in the last year or two DeQueen and now Maumelle, are miles ahead of everyone else most years. Will those last two have staying power? Time will tell. Valley View has had some good teams relative to their competition in the 5A East, but they're likely not good enough to compete and make a run come tournament time. The loss to Nettleton illustrates that. Now, on any given day? Sure, anything can happen, that's why they play the game. But no one could reasonably look at a Friday matchup against LRCA/Lakeside and expect VV to make it to Saturday. Would I be happy to see them do it? Absolutely. But that's why people aren't really talking about them. There's just not likely to be a darkhorse at this level. You'll see more of that kind of thing at 6A/7A.

The thing about playing in the 5A to make your team better skilled is to play 6A and 7A teams in non conference.  Maybe even great teams from border States in tournaments.  Win or lose, you find out on what you can do to do better.  I can't speak on LRCA, PA or any other 5A team, but that is what Harrison does.  I believe that the Goblins will play their "old pain in the side" rival 6A Siloam Springs for a third time on Thursday and the Lady Goblins will go to West Plains, MO for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.  Will they win or lose, I don't know, but I know that the experience gained is what counts going back to play in the 5A.

Didn't do the quote correctly from above.  Sorry bout that.   However, might be interesting to you that Valley View did play LRCA back in March and came out on top.  So not so unlikely that they couldn't advance against such a matchup as u mentioned.

Arbitro

In the 5A South VB, I'm pretty sure White Hall has been eliminated and the playoff teams will be DeQueen, Hope, Lakeside, and Hot Springs in some order.  Even if WH manages to beat DeQueen in their last game and Hot Springs loses the rest of their games so that the two schools have identical 2-6 records, Hot Springs will hold the tie breaker due to its two wins over WH.

In the 5A especially, a lot of 1st round matchups are now set.  While there are still the last few playoff spots to be claimed, prognosticating can really start now....
