Prayers and condolence to Kevin Thompson's family and friends.  Kevin lost his battle with cancer this morning.  I understand the funeral will be Saturday at 11:00 AM under the direction of Bailey's.

Kevin's son, Sean, was the winning pitcher and MVP in the Dragon's 2A state baseball championship in 2004.

Twenty-eight years after his death, former Junction City Dragon coaching legend Al Bolen will become a member of a hall of fame for the second time in three years. Bolen will be inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame on July 11, 2014 at Hot Springs Convention Center's Horner Hall. Bolen was inducted in the Union County Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.

Compiling a record of 385 - 63 in nineteen seasons as the Dragon's head baseball coach, Bolen won 4 state titles, 17 district titles and was named Arkansas Activities Association Coach of the Year 5 times.

Bolen is the first Dragon to be inducted into the AHSCA Hall of Fame.

This event is a great opportunity for all Dragon fans and former Bolen players to pay tribute to a true coaching legend.

Tickets to the July 11th event are $35.00. The banquet starts at 6:30 pm. For more information contact AAA representative Nicole Cunningham at 501-955-2500.

No, no.  I wasn't trying to say that they want to see their school consolidated.  Just that they're quite comfortable where they are.

So, JC's numbers have fallen lately?  And last question?  How many fans do JC average per home football game?

So, JC's numbers have fallen lately?  And last question?  How many fans do JC average per home football game?

This year is the first over the last seven or so that the school hasn't experienced some level of population decline. Nothing huge but in small schools any drop can have a budgetary impact.  The Georgia Pacific and the Conagra/Pilgrims Pride shut downs on top of the Murphy/El Dorado Promise were a challenge.  Some of that recent growth was probably the results of Claiborne Parish school board uncertainty and families moving north to settle their family's education situation in case the charter didn't work out.  Hopefully the school has found the floor and might get to recoup some of those losses over the next few years.

I don't have football attendance numbers but maybe somebody who reads this thread does.  JC has a good seating setup on the home side.  Not that fancy on the visitors side would be an understatement.  They have good crowds with the Bearden and usually Strong games.  Good crowds with the non-first round playoff games.  Unfortunately a side effect of success can be complacency and that sometimes shows up with the crowd size.  Always have a number of fence hangers.  ;D

If Ghog's brother conducts himself on the Wastson Chapel school board the way Ghog posts on FF, I can see why WC came off looking as badly as they did in their superintendent and football coach fiasco.  For the kids in WC sakes, hopefully it's not genetic.

The 2013-2014 All Sports Banquets is tonight (May 20th) at 6:00 pm in the school cafeteria.  Tickets are $15 and will be available at the door. Junction City athletes, families and fans are encouraged to attend.  All senior varsity athletes as well as coaches and coaches' spouses will be admitted free of charge.

Bleu can you give us a run down of the State titles that JC has in all Sports.  This group of seniors that graduated tonight has a lot of jewelery.

I know the first goes back to baseball in 1972, 1977, 1980, 1981, 1992, 199?, 2004 a total of 7

Glad to see that about Big Al.  He was quite the baseball coach.  I just wish Mrs. Bolen was alive to know that he finally got in.  She mentioned to me several time that he should be there and I agree.

Fayetteville, Hot Springs Lakeside and Elkins have done the same.

This might be one where I'm missing some years though.  I'm thinking it was a club competition before the AAA recognized cheer leading in 2011.  The weight lifting titles aren't recognized by AAA.

Before 1978, there was only one baseball state tournament.  I think JC got the finals win over Texarkana in the 1977 state final.

There were only two baseball state tournaments from 1978-1988.

Dragon I

22 State Titles since 2003.  That's impressive.  At least one baseball Title in 5 straight decades.  JC is the King of small school sports in the state of Arkansas.  Next season sets up nicely for football, basketball, weightlifting, and track.  It's got to be fun for those kids to know that in everything they do, they're competing for State Championships.  Is there anywhere to check and see who is the next closest to JC since the year 2000 in total State Titles in 2A?

The post game article in the El Dorado News Times for the baseball title game was titled  "Dragons Enhance Tradition" is true.  Six of the starting players dad's where on JC State Championship teams back in the day.  Also one of the reserves

Hunter Brantley
Zach Doolin
Parker Hammett
Keegan Hanry
Colton Pratt
Will Smith

Jerry Glover

Baseball only loose two seniors, granted they are both four year starters and pitcher's.  They should compete next year as well.
