It's still early but teams have a few games under their belt. Anyone have any thoughts?
Here's a little info on the teams and players I know about. All from southern Arkansas. Probably only 4 teams that are worth mentioning but could be more as the year goes on. Anyone feel free to add any information you know about these teams. It's still early so my knowledge is limited.
Caddo Hills was a young squad last year, mainly sophomores and one solid freshman point guard. (They were the only girls team from south ar to win a game at the state tourney last year) they are currently 6-3.
Camden Harmony Grove Girls lost only one senior who contributed and gained another good player i Believe. They have one of the best athletes in 2A. If they wouldn't have came out so sluggish against Carlisle last season they could've beaten them. They've started off slow so far, (1-2)
Blevins lady Hornets are 9-1 and are 3 points away from 10-0. They are well coached, disciplined team. All 9 of their wins are by double digits. We will see if they are legit this Tuesday when they face SH.
Spring Hill is lead by a solid group of seniors, but have many that can contribute. They go about 10 deep without much drop off. Come February & march when the younger players have more experience they can be hard to handle. They have 3 girls that could score in double figures every with Christy Randle, Graycee Barham, and Katie Rivera. We will find out more about them this week when they play Blevins and then jump in the Magnet cove tourney. They are 3-2 so far. 3 point L to a Scrappy Prescott team and 30 point L to Star City. Wins over Arkadelphia, Genoa, and Atlanta.
Carlisle lead by Kylie Warren who has been all state since 9th grade along with a talented group of players around her including point guard deshaye ricks who started as a 9th grader last year along with Heather Bowlan, Kiara Miller and Blakely Ellis. All 5 started games last year.
Earle who has Roshala Scott to go with most of the players left from last year. They will be talented and athletic.

I've seen both of these teams this year, I would pick Earle if they were to play today.
I was very impressed with Carlisle last season. They get after it. Now, their head coach, not shaking the other teams hand before and after the game, not so much..
Who did he not shake hands with? He never shakes hands before. He has an assistant that does that. He always shakes hands afterwards.

Haven't seen Warren play. Is she as good as Inman from a few years ago?
No not close imo Warren is good by Inman was a special once in a decade type player who could take over down low or on the perimeter at any time
Hard to compare the two imo... different players. Inman did play at the UofA and won a couple of state championships.Warren has offers from CBC and OBU.
Wouldn't Quitman girls be in this?

Probably isn't fair to try and compare the two, but I'm sure that is inevitable. Good luck to her and with her college choice.
I see almighty Earle took a loss to Marked Tree the other day by 10+ so they are good but not unbeatable just saying,
I also see that Earle got killed by Osceola some days before that game by 30. Does anyone know what is going on with Earle? I once heard in a thread that they could win any state championship going up to 4A at least and now that statement is looking very cloudy.

I have not seen we're Earle and Mark Tree has played each other this year when did they play!

Murray tries different combinations in November and December but when the end of January first of February rolls around the Dawgs are usually a tough out. They are king of the hill

ok didn't know they played we had a game scheduled with y'all but it was the night of first playoff game in football got cancelled, we have y'all again sometime before long looking Fwd to it. Good luck to y'all. And I'm talking about WCC.

Earle skull drug Lighthouse last year in the semifinals with both Doakes & Davis so I really doubt they will this year. Looks like they are losing players due to being ineligible. Better straighten up before AAA locks they booties up.

I've seen both Carlisle and Earle first hand, if Earle is 3 and Carlisle is 4, the gap between 3 and 4 is wide.
So says the school that got mercy ruled by Carlisle and Earle. People from Des arc also said Carlisle had no chance last year either. We won't know for sure until February and that district tournament is at Carlisle.

I watch Carlisle girls last year during regional at Carlisle when Marmaduke beat them by about 20. I don think they are no where near a top 10 team unless they have added a transfer.
Carlisle's best player was hurt and didn't start against Marmaduke. Taking nothing away from them though.. they played lights out. This was also the team that beat Earle last year so it's kinda hard to judge on one game. Kinda what I meant by my reply to Pick...

Umm, because I actually watched the games and not just the score. Des Arc also lost their best p.g. between the 2 games. Earle could have ran the score up, but chose not too. Carlisle ran the score up because des arcs coach ran the score up on Carlisle during a 7th grade game the weekend before. Buffalo let It be known he was going to do that before the sr game, I don't blame him. So stop comparing scores.

How did we run the score up? The starters didn't play the whole second half.

He did his damage in the first half. Earle benched the starters after 1qt. They could have been up 50 or 60 at the half.

But regardless, Carlisle is not on Earles level at this time.

Seems a little petty but hey, to each his own. If Carlisle is a serious contender as they appear to be, I would hope the coach would use each game to prepare for a deep run in the spring instead of worrying about the outcome of a 7th grade game.

And for the record... if Carlisle would've "ran the score up" it would not have been a 55-31 final. Sounds like sour grapes that y'all got swept all 4 games when you came to our house

I simply voiced my opinion on what I thought about Earle and Carlisle girls. As usual someone from Carlisle gets truly upset when someone has a different opinion than theirs. Until you actually see both play, you can't even have an honest opinion, but then again, you are for Carlisle so......

See, you failed to comprehend I was actually on your coaches side. Wasn't calling him out. No doubt y'all are better coached. We have 7 healthy players, yes 7. We have lost 2 to season ending injuries. I think we only have 1 Sr. Talent is there for a good run in the future, but not sure about the coaching. I didn't like the pressing after he called off the dogs either

And explained why and said I had no problem with it. Play them the whole game. Des Arc girls were beating P-w 34-3 In the 3rd qt last I heard tonight.
Scott from Earle is awesome, but Carlisle did beat Earle last year with pretty much the same team. She got her points, but she didn't dominate Carlisle.
EAtle don't have all of its players duh. Now that football season is over...you can now expect greatness.

That is true in some part, but if they were going just by W-L pangburn would be 1 because theyve won more games than anybody and Earle has only played/won 5.
Carisle is the name that is missing that shouldn't be. They beat Poyen by double digits. Marmaduke is another name that is missing.

Not true. Stopped full court press 4:00 minutes into game. Actually called a timeout in 2nd quarter to show them how to play a 1-3-1 which they haven't played since 4th grade. Also Coach Smith was asked by referees to run the clock with 5:00 minutes left in 3rd quarter and said go ahead and they did. After hundred's of games over 9 season's at Marmaduke this was the first time Coach Smith has had a team score 100 points. Also after 4:00 mark of 1st quarter didn't play starters together.

You have a right to your opinion but not your own facts. No matter what you may have heard there are no alternative facts. Melbourne has a very good team and may very well kick the crap out of us but if they do you won't here me complaining and crying about it we'll just go to work and try to get better. That's one thing I did learn from Riverside's coach. Don't make excuses and work harder.
Just have Smith Call our Jr high girls coach if he wants a little closer game, we will play your sr girls team ;D

We didn't cancel the series in the first place Brookland did but we will be glad to resume it next year we have a lot of dates available. So if Marmaduke is not on your girls schedule you'll need to find out from your coach why because we are in. We would love to play a good team like Brookland twice a year.

Just wanted to update you on the possible Marmaduke and Brookland series resuming in 2018-19 season. Marmaduke has this morning invited Brookland to play in the 5th Annual Fight Like Girl Classic on November 9th or 10th and we have offered to come to Brookland next season also to play in your new arena. We have offered to play both Jr. and Sr. High on both dates. We have several dates available for the return trip to Brookland. Coach Smith is looking forward to hearing from Coach Baltz. We believe it would benefit both schools to resume this series as it has in the past. With the elimination of the mixed conferences next season it shouldn't be a problem getting this done.

Maybe we can squeeze in a game this year, we tried to play Kirby Tuesday but it didn't work out.

This is probably true. Clarendon boys were something like 7 or 8 last week having only 1 loss to JAFair but after defeating McGehee and LR Central and playing Pine Bluff within 4 we jumped up to 3. Rankings mean nothing though.
Saw Quitman girls play Mount Vernon last night. Quitman won by 3. They also beat them by 4 last week. I personally don't think they are as talented as last year but are still very formidable. Well disciplined, tough and are well coached. All of which shows the signs of a defending champion and a team ready to defend their title. With that said... I think Earle is the team to beat.

The team won't go far in regional " probably one and out" but Terri Malone from Parkers Chapel has to be placed in the mix as best girl players in 2-A
Scott from Earle is by far the best girls basketball player in 2A. I would say only the girl from CAC is better.
Malone is good. Doesn't have crap around her though

Danville girls are a dark horse as they played 4 freshmen all year and had every chance to win the district finals. If they figure out some kind of post game, they could be really good over next few years, especially considering the jr girls won district starting five 8th graders too. No D1 kids, but as a whole, gonna be a good group

Carlisle is playing well right now, when it counts. But when I wrote that post, I think Earle looked better. No I am not gonna stop smack talking about Carlisle. What fun would that be? Lol
I'll give you that one Pick.... still doesn't change my view that you can't judge teams based on playing the same team when that team is not very good

She is good but there I wouldn't say she is the 2nd best player in the state... Corey Beck's (Coriah)daughter, Sasha Goforth, Yummy Morris, Destiny Salary and Marquesha Davis to name a few.
I don't know about you guys, but that #21 from Marmaduke is a solid player. Heard she's good at taking charges and she's very smart with the ball. But she don't get the ball much is what I heard. Earle has begged her to move here. It's a shame. She could go far and to places with her skill if her coach would see that. Same with #33 on Marmaduke. But I definitely think Marmaduke has A LOT of talent this year.
