Greenwood BulldogsGREENWOOD BULLDOGS Conference: 5A-West Head coach: Rick Jones Record last year: 12-2, 6-1 Points scored, points allowed: 577-343 Playoff appearances since 1968: 17 Last playoff appearance: 2006 Playoff record: 24-14 Key returning starters: QB Tyler Wilson, OG John Grier, OG Nick Babb, C Patrick Landherr, WR Josh Hogan, LB C.J. McCraney, DT Travis Davis, DE Josh Bradt, S Nick Humphrey, S Travis Sandifer. Outlook: The Bulldogs have won consecutive state championships and will try to join rarified company as they go for three titles in a row. Leading the charge will be highly-touted quarterback Tyler Wilson, who not only filled in admirably after the departure of Daniel Stegall but even carved out his own legacy. Wilson set a single-season school record with 4,227 passing yards with 50 touchdowns. In the state championship game 56-55 victory over Pulaski Academy, Wilson was 39 of 65 for 582 yards and six touchdowns. In just the fourth quarter, Wilson was 21 of 32 for 246 yards and three touchdowns. He will be joined by three returning offensive linemen in guards Nick Babb and John Grier, and center Patrick Landherr. Travis Davis, one of the top defensive linemen in the state, will join them on the offensive line as he goes to being a two-way performer. Receiver Josh Hogan is the only full-time returner at receiver, but C.J. McCraney and Travis Sandifer will easily step into two of the remaining three holes in Greenwoods four-receiver set. Davis, with 90 tackles and 8-1/2 sacks, leads the defense, which also has McCraney back at linebacker, Josh Bradt at end among the front seven. Sandifer and Nick Humphrey both have experience in the secondary. Greenwood also returns two experienced kickers in Matt McKnight and Austin Hartness, who was moved up as a freshman last year. Comments from Jones: "The defensive line should be the strength of the defense. The defense should be better overall. Key spots at running back, wide receiver, and defensive backs must be filled. We lost three out of four receivers, but six positions. They started in the secondary, too. We're looking high and low to find receivers. Having three offensive linemen back gives us stability. We have a lot of work to do, but these kids know how to work."
